Ruling on reading Ta'awudz/Isti'adzah
Read Isti'adzah or Ta'awudz, that is, readings (أَعُوْذُبِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ) is the ruling of the sunnah, based on the word of Allaah in the Qur'an Surah An Nahl verse 98:
فَإِ ذَا قَرَءْثَ الْقُرْاَنَ فَا سْثَعِذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَا نِ الرَّجِيْمِ
'' If you would read the Qur'an, then seek refuge to Allah from the accursed Satan's temptation. " (Q.S. An Nahl: 98).
In the study of Islam when we would read the Qur'an, then it is desirable to read Ta'awudz then read the Basmalah, except for Mail At-Tauba (merely reading the Ta'awudz alone, without reading Basmalah).
