A Muslim is not allowed to keep a dog in his house without any purposes permitted by Islamic law. The Messenger of Allaah ' Alayhi wa Sallam said,
مَنِ اتَّخَذَ كَلْباً إِلاَّ كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ ، أوْ صَيْدٍ ، أوْ زَرْعٍ ، انْتُقِصَ مِنْ أجْرِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطٌ
"Who kept the dog, unless the dog to keep livestock, hunting and keeping the plants, then the reward will be reduced each day by as much as one qirath." (Narrated by Muslim, no. 1575)
In the history of the others will be reduced is equivalent to two qirath.
مَنِ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا لَيْسَ بِكَلْبِ مَاشِيَةٍ أَوْ ضَارِيَةٍ ، نَقَصَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ قِيرَاطَانِ

The meaning of qirath in this Hadith in the talk about by the scholars, do the same with qirath in the hadeeth of precedence following the organizing bodies to bury them i.e. qirath of the mountain. Or is it different here with qirath qirath on the Hadith of the virtue of organizing funerals? Shaykh Muhammad ibn ' Abd Al-Mubarakfury said,
واختلف في القيراطين المذكورين هنا ، هل هما كالقيراطين المذكورين في الصلاة على الجنازة واتباعها ، فقيل بالتسوية ، وقيل اللذان في الجنازة من باب الفضل واللذان هنا من باب العقوبة ، وباب الفضل أوسع من غيره.
"Scholars dispute the opinion regarding the two qirath that is mentioned here, do the same with two qirath on funerals and prayer following the funerals. One opinion describes two qirath on the virtue of praying the corpse while the Hadith (keep the dog) on chapter punishment. The virtue of it wider than the punishment (that is, two qirath on a lower penalty chapter value than two qirath in chapter precedence) ". (Tuhfatul AL-Ahwadzi 3/4)
An-Nawawi clarified that qirath on the Hadith here not described and only God know simply applied. He said,
والقيراط هو مقدار معلوم عند الله تعالى ، والمراد ينقص جزء من أجر عمله .
"Qirath is a known simply applied levels on the side of God, the meaning of this hadeeth has reduced the reward of charity." (Syarh Muslim 10/342)
Consider what the benefits of keeping a dog without the permission of laws?
Renungkanlah, for what we keep a dog if there were no benefits? But the dog could live freely if left alive in the wild. We need to ponder too:
Isn't it better to keep the money we use for dog gifts?
Is not it better attention for dogs we use for observing the orphans?
Isn't it time for us to play around with the dogs we use for better things beneficial to humans?
Remember also that the dog is unclean sycophancy and belongs to the odious weight (mughallazhah). And how clean it different with other odious. The Prophet Sallallahu ' Alayhi Wa Sallam said,
طُهُورُ إِنَاءِ أحَدِكُمْ إِذَا وَلَغَ فِيهِ الكَلْبُ أنْ يَغْسِلَهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ أُولاَهُنَّ بِالتُّرَابِ
"Holy container you guys when the dog licked, is to be washed seven times, 1 time first with dust." (Narrated by Muslim, no. 279)
Consider also that sometimes a dog kept in front of the House would generally interfere with other people and pedestrians. Not a Barking Dog seldom toned, scared and made the shock even chase people and inflicting terror.
May keep a dog if there are needs that allowed the Shari'a
For instance dogs for hunting. As the word of God,
وَمَا عَلَّمْتُمْ مِنَ الْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ اللَّهُ ۖ فَكُلُوا مِمَّا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ
"(The Game is captured) by wild beasts which ye have taught with the train it for hunting, you teach it according to what God has taught you, then eat of what is caught for you, and say the name of God above wild beasts (time take it off). And fear Allah Allah is swift hisabNya "[Al-Maa'idah 5:4/]
How to keep a dog to guard houses? There are differences of opinion among scholars. An-Nawawi included clerics who allow. He said,
هَلْ يَجُوز اِقْتِنَاء الْكِلَاب لِحِفْظِ الدُّور وَالدُّرُوب وَنَحْوهَا ؟ فِيهِ وَجْهَانِ : أَحَدهمَا : لا يَجُوز ، لِظَوَاهِر الأَحَادِيث ، فَإِنَّهَا مُصَرِّحَة بِالنَّهْيِ إِلا لِزَرْعٍ أَوْ صَيْد أَوْ مَاشِيَة , وَأَصَحّهمَا : يَجُوز ، قِيَاسًا عَلَى الثَّلاثَة
"Is it permissible to keep dogs to guard homes and streets? There are two opinions of scholars. One of them is declared not to be because Zahir Hadith forbid and allow only on three things, namely to keep the plants for agriculture, for hunting, or for the keeping of farm animals. The opinion of the most Sahih is permissible because of the in qiyas with that of those three things. " (Syarh Muslim 10/340)
While the other clergy who do not allow i.e. Ibn Qudaamah. He said,
وإن اقتناه لحفظ البيوت ، لم يجز ; للخبر . ويحتمل الإباحة . وهو قول أصحاب الشافعي ; لأنه في معنى الثلاثة ، فيقاس عليها . والأول أصح ; لأن قياس غير الثلاثة عليها ، يبيح ما يتناول الخبر تحريمه . قال القاضي : وليس هو في معناها ، فقد يحتال اللص لإخراجه بشيء يطعمه إياه ، ثم يسرق المتاع
"Keep the dogs to keep the House should not be based on the Hadith. The Hadith is indeed understandable that possibility, that the opinions of the ulama Syafi'iyah ulama Syafi'iyah stated because the dog with the intention of keeping the House is included in the three purposes is allowed. We feel more serene setting with the opinion that does not allow it because there are still many other ways to keep the House in addition to relying on the guard dog. Such as Ronda, install detectors or similar services or wear the guard for a residential complex.
So may be useful.

May keep a dog if there are needs that allowed the Shari'a
For instance dogs for hunting. As the word of God,
